Question by Hmmm…: Was the deregulation of the telecommunications industry successful?
Do you feel that the Telecommunications Act of 1996 was successful? It hoped to deregulate the industry, increasing competition but it seems like since then the business has just become more monopolistic. Am I missing something? What benefits have come from the act, if any? Am I just being pessimistic or does in seem as though the act has largely failed?

It is significantly more competitive. However, I think it wasn’t successful because it broke up natural monopolies and increased prices to consumers. I’ve got a good white paper on why it wasn’t, if I can find it I’ll upload it and post it.
