Krishna Shenoy is creating “brain-computer interfaces” that will enable paralyzed patients to control prosthetic arms and computer cursors. In this short talk, Shenoy describes how his team of Stanford researchers has built a system that achieves typing at 15 words-per-minute, just by “thinking about it”. This is simply AMAZING!!!!
That’s nice but we’ve been discussing and working on this for at least the past 30 years. Let us know when you actually have a fully functional neural interface and it will be news worthy.

@guerillachan20 The device is silicon, with small metal electrode sites at the tip. But yes, there can be a ‘foreign body response’ that effects the utility of some of the many device tips over extended periods of time.
The devices are commercially available at blackrockmicro website
@sn1pe352 There are plenty of smart bar maids
@robowenyt Sorry, but I really don’t see the patronizing tone. He made it as simple as possible, I think.
But even if you thought he was patronizing (and I disagree with you here), why would it matter? Who cares if he’s an asshole if his team can change the world.
@guerillachan20 That’s a good point, but (and I am no expert either), there’s a whole section of biomedical engineering that focuses on materials that won’t cause infections or won’t be treated ad foreign by the body (biomaterials, if you are interested). That’s why engineers often work as a team- you’ll rarely see a team of biomedical engineers- it’s (for example) 1 neuroengineer (me!!), 1 materials, 1 electrical, 1 computer. Team effort.
wouldnt that cause infection having a chip with metal pins implanted in your brain specially due to the fact that the metal might become oxidized causing corrosion but hey what the hell do I know Im no expert.
Indians/Hindus owning untouchable scum (christians/muslims/jews/communists) again!
JAI HIND!
interesting subject; shame about his patronising tone. what is needed for decoding the electrostatic feedback is conjoint analysis.
It would be awesome if this guy made something that could read brain controls fast because Stephen Hawking could finally communicate well at all, and a so intelligent person like him who can’t speak well for 50 years would love it
One day this guy will make to Nobel prize. Because the solution his concept will offer will solve problems of millions of people.
one of my professor’s is a former student of shenoy’s
what a nerd.
Combine this with a blood-powered fuel cell =D

Its starting to become available this year!!!
